For many of the Thunderbird athletes at Canada Summer Games, it was an ideal end to the season. The Thunderbirds sent the most athletes of any club (9) on Team BC to compete for their province and came home with an impressive showing of 5 Gold Medals, 4 Silver Medals, and 2 Bronze medals. Paul Little capped off his season with a winning jump of 2.14, a new personal best. Claudia Richard took home a gold medal in the women's 4x400, and Liz Gleade set a new Summer Games record with her javelin win.
For some, the Summer Games provided a mid-way competition between the National Championships held in late June and the upcoming Francophone Games in Lebanon. Reid Gustavson took home a gold in the men's decathlon to new UBC teammate Mark Chenry, and helped the 4x400 to a bronze medal finish. The Thunderbirds continued their dominance in the javelin throw, finishing 1-2 in both the men's and women's categories. Rohan Stewart made National carding standard in the 200m and took home a silver (4x100) and a bronze (4x400) for the team.
