CROSS-COUNTRY PRACTICES TO START AUGUST 29TH – NEW MEMBERS WELCOME

Cross Country Practices for all athletes begin on Monday, August 29th at 4:30pm at Saint Georges Senior School.  The weekly practice schedule will be as follows: Monday, Wednesday and Thursday at 4:30pm, and Saturday at 10am; all practices at Saint Georges Senior School. Elementary and High School practices will be run at the same time as this will allow athletes to train with the group that most meets their needs.

If you are not a member of the Vancouver Thunderbirds and want to come out and try a practice or two, or if you wish to find out more about the cross-country program, please contact:

Andrew de Visser - National Midget Champion , Bashir Khan - Silver

Andrew de Visser won the National Youth 100m Hurdles event in Otttawa on Friday with a time of 13.95 (13.81 heat time) just shy of the meet record, but easily ahead of his nearest rivals. Congratulations to Andrew for a great performance. Way to go!
In the U18 Boys High Jump, the ever consistent, Bashir Khan took silver with a jump of 1.98, just 3 cm back from first place. A great end to a great season.
A number of other Vancouver Thunderbird athletes competed on the first day of the Youth Nationals in Ottawa. Christian Gravel took fourth place in a very competitive U18 1500m final while Katrina Allison warmed up for her main event, the 3000m, with a 5th place in her timed heat, for 15th overall.  Daniel Goh capped off an impressive season of improvement with an 11th place finish in the Boys U16 1200m ina time of 3.21.18.
On day two Katrina Allison finished 8th in the 3000m in in 10:23. Christian Gravel took 5th place in the Boys U18 3000m in a personal best of 8:40.93 and Amabel Stokes was thirteenth out of thirty-nine starters in the U18 400m.
On the last day of competition Daniel Goh finished 7th in the boys U16 800m in 2.03.85, Kansas Mackenzie was 12th in her 800m in 2.18.57, and Andrew de Visser jumped well but missed a bronze medal by one place in the boys U16 long jump with a jump of 6.29m.
