JD Pentathlon 

This past weekend saw the Thunderbirds take to the track and the field for the Junior Development Pentathlon in Maple Ridge, BC.  

In the nine year old girls event Amelia Kristen came first with 1390 points; winning all individual events but one. Third place went to Maya Baechler who pulled into third place with a fast 600m run at the end of the competition.

Three T-Birds competed in the Girls’ 10 year old event. Finley Butler finishing 6th, Jessica Kieffer 10th and Sophie Forsythe 19th out of a field of 27. 

Mac Bryden finished 5th in the ten year old boys event; performing consistently in all events with his strongest showing coming in the shot put where he finished 4th.

In the 11 year old event, Hella-Marie Dolman and Noel Yau finished 9th and 10th; their best individual performance coming in the shot put and high jump respectively; Noel scoring a big personal best in the high jump of 1.21m.  

Xavier Kristen edged his way into bronze position with a second place jump of 1.31m in the high jump followed by a win in a fast time in the last event, the 600m. Paul Paetzel and Atticus Karakostas finishing 13th and 14th respectively.

Ruby Fox finished 10th overall in the 12 year old girls’ event; Maggie MacKay and Cynthia Wei finishing 20th and 21st respectively. Dylan Ulrich finished 7th in the boys event with strong performances in the hurdles and high jump.

Sophie Morris performed consistently in all events but narrowly missed out on a medal in the girls’ 13 year old pentathlon; losing out by just 78 points. Jack McColl also missed out on a bronze medal by less than 100 points

In the girls 14 year olds event, Danielle Miller finished 5th with strong performances in the shot and high jump. Paul Fisher won a close fought battle in the boys’ event by 64 points through wins in the hurdles and 1000m as well as some excellent jumping in both the long jump and high jump.

Congratulation to all who competed! All athletes will be looking forward to the BC Jamboree at the end of July in Kamloops, BC.

Steady Progress at the Jesse Bent Meet

Thirty five Thunderbird JD athletes attended the Jessie Bent Meet in Coquitlam on June 7th and 8th, bringing home 5 gold, 15 silver and 6 bronze medals, and a host of seasonal best performances.

In the 100m Amelia Kristen earned silver, while Sophie Morris and Tyne MacDonald earned a pair of 3rd place finishes. Sophie came back in the 200m to win a silver medal and followed that with a gold in the 300m.

In the 600m Brynn McColl earned captured a bronze.The 1000m saw Amelia Kristen bring home a gold, with Sophie Forsyth having a very strong run to for a second place finish.

For the boys, Jonah Glover-Cook earned ran to second place finishes in both the 1200m and 2000m. Brynn McColl finished second in the 60 Meter Hurdles, while Bridget Spencer came second in the 800m Walk and Conrad McCallum won a gold in the 1500m Walk. Thunderbird runners teamed up to earn two silver medals in the 10 year old and 11 year old 4x100m Relays.

In the field Chloe Cady and Amelia Kristen each came second in the high jump. Xavier Kristen took a bronze in the vertical jump, then followed it up with a win in the long jump, the latter result being matched by Bryn McColl in his long jump event. Tyne MacDonald took a runner up spot in the long jump, a finish replicated by Jack McColl in the triple Jump. Amelia Kristen showed her versatility by taking bronze in the shot. Finally our javelin throwers Hella-Marie Dolman, Atticus Karakostas, and Delia Warrington finished 2nd, 2nd and third respectively.
