T-BIRDS RUN WELL AT BC CROSS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Fielding a strong team of 22 runners at the BC Cross Country Championships on October 27th at Lambrick Park in Victoria, the Thunderbirds captured 3rd place for the JD trophy as well as placing a runner on this years BC Junior team.

The JD scoring was led by excellent runs by Peggy Noel and Kansas McKenzie who finished 1-2 over the 3.9 km 13 yr old girls course and Erin Potter who finished 3rd in the 15 yr old Girls race. The JD team also had good runs from Zayne Heyes and Riley Cambon (5th and 12th in the 12 yr old boys division), Jennifer Liao (4th in 13 yr old girls)
Gaelan Moore (6th in 13 yr old boys), Richard Liao (7th in 10 yr old Boys), Sam Hogg (13th in the 14 yr old Boys) and David Phillips (5th in 15 yr old Boys).

In the Juvenile Womens Division, Kat Digby finished 2nd over the 4.8 km course and was selected to the BC Junior Women’s team that will compete at the Nationals in Guelph, Ontario on December 1st. Following Kat in a strong women’s field were 6 other Thunderbirds led by Kendra Pomfret (12th), Monica Marpole-Bird (13th), Paige Harrison (14th), Carmanah Mckenzie (15th), Grace Ling (16th), and Noa Rippel (19th). Meredith Briggs placed 6th in the Junior Women’s Division

In the Juvenile Men’s Division, Sam Gilsig paced the Thunderbirds with a 17th place finish, followed by newcomer Braden Neufeld in 19th, and Jeremy Yen-Chiu in 23rd . In the Junior Boys, James Barnes surged in the last km to capture 5th place. 

Many thanks to Graeme and Joel for helping to mentally and physically prepare the team for the competition and most of all for making it a fun fall season. The excellent fall base and winter training should translate into some great performances on the track next spring!
